Playing retro-punk rock - Fair Call spill the beans

Fair call are a relatively new punk-rock quartet that take their cues from more retro-punk rock acts that you'd find in Southern California yet Fair Call reside in the city of churches which is totally awesome! I caught up with the guys and went through a few drill exercises.

I had a listen to your single 'Skinned Knees' and it reminded me of Bad Religion, you know that early Epitaph Records sound. Is that something you're aiming for?

Epitaph Records represent a lot of artists that our members listen to like Dropkick Murphys, Rancid and La Dispute to name a few! While the sound isn't something we're directly aiming for I'm sure the influences these bands have had on us seeps into our sound!

How did Fair Call, form?

Fair Call formed starting with our vocalist Josh and our drummer Jimmy who have played together in a few different projects that didn't really make it beyond jamming. Our bass player Pykie is a friend of Jimmy's from their hometown Hamley Bridge so that's how he was introduced to the group. We played as a three piece for maybe three or four months before searching for a lead guitarist to fill out the sound more and that's when we met Curtis who joined the group which brings us to where we are now!

If you could support any current band on the planet - Who would that be?

None of us can agree on this hahaha so supporting a concert of Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, ACDC and FIDLAR all at once would be the dream.

What venue in Adelaide are you aspiring to perform at?

Right now I think the big goal locally is to play a show at the Thebarton Theatre but we've discussed really wanting to do some kind of show at The Jade at some point in the future! It has such a cool and unique atmosphere to it and we'd love to give it a try one day!

Where do you see Fair Call in 5 years time?

In five years we'd love to see Fair Call playing festivals around the country and have a couple of shows outside of Australia under our belt! Our guitarist is American and he's said he'd love to see us doing some shows over there which sounds like a great goal for us in the next few years! (Editor : Looks like you will make that dream come true on in the future - Now to start lining up the other work visas!)
