the SEXELS - Paper, ROCK and Scissors!
Appreciate the
great compliment! We tried to give it a more old school feel! Well basically
with songwriting it occurs in various ways but it quite often happens in the
way that Laken, our singer, and I get together and put tunes and lyrics
together in a basic raw form. We take these into the studio – Customs Music of
course!! – and Doyle our drummer and Steve our bassist introduce their ideas at
that point and then we all work together towards something that hopefully
sounds half decent! Haha!
2. If you could tour with any artist on the planet,
who would that be and why..
Well that’s hard
because there are so many! But yeah, still waiting on the reformation of Led
Zeppelin for that last world tour. Now that would be a tour to be on as they are
so legendary and iconic and of course their music rocks! But alas we can only
dream…
3. You’ve just released your debut EP on the newly
‘Paper Rock Scissors’ Record label. Tell us how that come about?
Well as a band we thought it was time to get a proper recording out there and spread the love! So we picked 6 of our best songs honed them and went into Sody Sounds Norwood with Brett Sody and Matt Cahill. They did an amazing job and importantly made it fun. Matt Cahill the guy behind Paper Rock Scissors Records liked what he heard and asked if we wanted to be on his label and as they say the rest is history. Matt slaved away over mixing down our songs and we are forever grateful! The EP “What You Said’ is now out through PRS Records and available on many streaming platforms including Spotify
4. Influences. The SEXELS seem to have transported from the 70’s to now!– What are you all into? The sound of the SEXELS is deeply entrenched in heavy-english metal and punk rock, quite frankly it’s bloody awesome. Tell us about how this all happened and how did you get access to the time machine! haha
You
are being too kind… stop it! Haha! But really, thanks heaps. Well, I was in the
backyard one day and I noticed a hatch leading down to a hidden cave… haha! To
get serious for a moment, we are just into all sorts of music but really take
inspiration from bands like Amyl and The Sniffers, Led Zepellin, The
Distillers, Black Sabbath and all of that!
5. What’s next for The SEXELS? What’s the goal for
the next 5-10 years and even beyond?
What’s next… hmmm…
WORLD DOMINATION!! Thought I’d be original there! Haha! But yeah, we have been
around for about two years and have done a lot of great shows with great bands.
We released an EP, got signed to a label and are currently receiving interstate
support and if we can just keep on getting new tunes out there and growing our
fan base and that would be epic!
