On the Brink of greatness..

Bella Brinkworth is a relatively new singer-songwriter currently performing around Adelaide. She has some stunning songs currently streaming on Spotify including her 'Little Girl' EP and singles such as 'Crying at the Beach'. After being really impressed by her songs, Bella agreed to catch up and chat about how music is treating her lately..

Your songs are absolutely stunning. They are haunting yet they offer so much light – Who are your inspirations? Where does all this vocal layering come from and is this your vision for the future?

Thank you so much, that is so kind! I have always been a fan of big vocal arrangements. When I was younger I would be able to hear how I wanted a song to sound, but I lacked the instrumental skills to play what I envisioned so I would sing what I heard instead! I think that habit has stuck around.

I am also a huge Beatles fan and listening to their vocal arrangements as a kid definitely inspired me! I am also super inspired by artists like Lana Del Rey, Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith, Imogen Heap, Jeff Buckley, Lizzy McAlpine and have recently become super into Jake Minch!

I plan on keeping lots of harmonies and vocal layering in future songs, it’s definitely

what I naturally gravitate towards.

I can hear an entire orchestra getting behind this type of song-writing – Your songwriting would really shine with this kind of arrangements, do you hear this as well? I can hear the ASO in the background, your arrangements have a real ethereal vibe. Songs like ‘Little Girl’ and ‘Fingertips’ are from another world!

I am a huge fan of strings and orchestral arrangements and in a dream world I would love to do shows with an orchestra! I am very inspired by Lana del Rey and her cinematic, string heavy sound. I have just finished recording a song with this string heavy, orchestral feel in mind so I’m very excited to put that out soon!

If you could perform with any artist on the planet, who’s your dream gig with?

If I were to dream massive it would have to be either Lana Del Rey or Paul McCartney!! They have definitely inspired me the most out of any artists. I am also a huge fan of the Aus music scene, I am a big fan of Mou and Tim Hart’s recent EP “the long way together”, I’ve also been loving Darcie Haven, Aleksiah and The Tullamarines recently! it would definitely be a dream come true to play with any of them!

Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years time from now? Collaborating, touring, playing festivals?

My dream is to one day be a full time musician, working in the studio and headlining tours! I would love to be playing festivals and hopefully playing shows interstate as well as internationally! My main dream has always been to create albums. If I were to look ten years in the future, I’d hope to have the resources to have a few albums released as well as the ability to tour them!

What is something we don’t know about Bella Brinkworth...

I am completely shocking at music theory! I write everything by feel and sometimes do not know the names of the chords I’m playing, I just like the way it sounds. I am very impressed and enamored by people that understand it though, I think that’s incredible!
