Rosie and the Posies - From 1991 to 2026!

Rosie and the Posies are a new Adelaide band playing regularly in the scene and they came to my attention performing alongside other prominent Adelaide bands and have also released two debut songs 'Love in Autumn' and 'Feline Supreme'. I caught up with the band recently to see where they're currently at!

Firstly, I really like the singles you’ve released ‘Feline Supreme’ and ‘Love in Autumn’,
they remind me of music that came from the Sub Pop Label,
namely the label that had bands like Nirvana, Sleater-Kinney and TAD.
When you started writing was your intention to move into that grunge-rock genre?

Simply put, it's just the genre that works best for all of us.
Not only do we like grungey music, but it's also the most fun for us to play on stage.
I've written a lot of softer song, jazzier songs, and stuff with that kind of vibe.
The punky grungy sound is what we love to play and make the most.
Usually we just play around and discover some chords or a riff that we like
then just scrap on some stupid lyrical nonsense. And it works!

Looking forward, what are your recording plans?

Keep an eye out for an EP that could be potentially out somewhat soon (maybe actually pretty far away)

If you could open for any artist on the planet, who would that be?

Any punky/grunge-y artist we are inspired by truly: Amyl and the Sniffers, Lash, Bikini Kill or Le Tigre, Spiderbait, we basically love our gals rock.

Where do you see the band in say 10 years from now?
A lofty question but it gives a glimpse into the band’s minds-eye

Well I'm not even sure but we definitely wouldn't have dropped our day jobs. Just keeping up the hype for fun and to give ammunition our musician daydreams.

Tell us about your individual inspirations, what artists shape you all as musicians and songwriters..

Rosie (bass): I like music. (Ed : Rosie, that is the best answer since starting this music blog!) - I like music, too : )

Nat (lead vocals/guitar): Songwriting and music is my whole life it's what I study and it's my free time and it's job too (I teach guitar). So really it's just a way to be myself. I'm inspired by every musician and everyone around me in my life. And I guess like, Led Zeppelin or something. (Ed : Impressed!)

Sylvie (lead guitar): For our music I’m really inspired by 90s alt rock artists like Hole, Elastica, The Breeders, Veruca Salt, PJ Harvey, Lush, Regurgitator, Liz Phair, Garbage and L7!
(Ed: Sylvie, your influences are truly cool, I'm gonna make you jelly and let you know I met Elastica)

Nadia (drums): As a kid my grandparents and i would watch videos of The Carpenters and I've always felt very inspired by Karen Carpenter as a girl drummer!!
(Ed : Nadia, Karen C was the coolest, slickest drummer to ever live - & sing whilst playing!)
