That Adelaide band - July single reviews 2026

Solly Fern – He Eats Her Alive

This new release from Adelaide, folky singer songwriter has lot’s of interesting peaks and troughs with emotions and feelings  of the song fitting in well with Solly’s big vocal range, think Last Dinner Party meets Florence and Machine

Lola – Make things right

Lola’s new single contains everything Lola is getting know for – Catchy verses/chorus’ with infectious punk-pop energy that was pretty huge back in the 90’s (think One Dollar Short, Unwritten Law, Living End) and you’ll be in the right ball-park – Really enjoyed this, Billy’s vocals sound great.

Effie Isobel – Moon Made

Such an amazing tune, too good for Australia! ‘Moon Made’ is so indie-pop, perfect and at times reminds me of the band Waikiki, especially Effie’s vocals – So endearing. If overseas audiences heard this song it’d be a huge hit.

The Empty Threats – Evil Eye

Stu Patterson, lead singer of The Empty Threats seems to not only captivate on record but also has the ability to translate this live and the entire band is just next level. ‘Evil Eye’ is such a fantastic song, an older track but one of the Empty Threats, best.

Cherry Daisies – Falling star

Five-piece indie-pop have created this gem, big Boy and Bear vibes here, vibey songwriting, clever hooks which this band are becoming very well known for.

Carpathia – Freedom of Fear

For the black-metal lovers, Freedom of Fear have delivered this deep-cut howling, growling song with such precision, if you’re feeling like some motivation to do something, this is the song for you!

Over and Over – Sunsick Daisy

I saw Sunsick Daisy play a show at the Queens Theatre one night and they played this song for the first time – The fuzzy guitar and catchy chorus is just delectable.

Somewhere – The Violets

An arousing song from the Violets collection, the eerie guitars sets this apart from other guitar pop bands you will hear. As Matt sings “Somewhere in the back of my life”. Exceptional

Alone  – The Sexels

Quartet The Sexels turn on their brightly, rock-punk smarts with this rocking track, Laken’s searing vocals washes over the ‘bigness’ of ‘Alone’ as the bass, drums and guitar greet you like a cold beer to the face!

Love in Autumn – Rosie and the Posies

Feeling this is only the start of something very cool and melodic from this Adelaide band, I can hear what they’re trying to do, capture grungy, vigorous compositions inside a big rock shell. Gimme more.
